Can you imagine becoming a stay at home mom and having absolutely no creative outlet planned? No wonder being a stay at home mom often gets a bad rap. Moms set themselves up for failure when they consider all aspects of making staying at home with the kids possible except how to keep themselves from going batty.
I was a stay at home mom for only two months before I approached my super techy husband about starting a blog. Two months.
We aren’t wired to stay at home, talk to ourselves, clean constantly, and have PJ Masks on repeat. We’re people who were designed to desire creativity.
I’m finishing up my third year of being a stay at home mom and when I compare life as a SAHM newbie to now, I just see how much more I love being able to stay at home with my kids. The ONLY difference is, having a creative outlet to still feel somewhat like an adult woman every now and then!

Mostly, this blog is something I’ve played around with consistently since July 2015 (two months after becoming a stay at home mom) and I absolutely love what it does for my brain!
I also like to comb those wild hairs of extreme creativity every now and then, and that’s when I get to dive into a DIY project of some sort.
Currently, that is creating a gallery wall in our new home! I am so intrigued with gallery walls, and now that we’ve moved, we have the perfect spot for one! So the kids and I hit up our local thrift stores this week! I am all for DIY on a budget! So, I’m documenting everything, and when it’s complete I will share the process with you! It’s been a lot of fun so far!
Do you have a creative outlet that helps you not become a raging mom-ster? If you don’t, check out these creative outlets for stay at home moms and see what inspires you!
Blogging allows for SO much creativity. It’s certainly not for everyone, but it is something I enjoy! I get to write, design, market, and help people – all in one. If blogging is something that intrigues you, just jump right in and go for it! WordPress actually has a free platform, so there’s really nothing keeping you from starting now.
I am a creative at heart. My soul thrives when I get to do something fun that lets my creativity shine! DIY is probably my most favorite of all creative outlets. Another reason I love blogging so much is, I get to DIY the look and feel of my blog! It’s like a project that never ends (and doesn’t cost me any extra money). I get to keep going back and changing whatever I want, whenever I want!
If you like the idea of DIY, start with something small and rock it out! Head out to a thrift store and purchase an old bookshelf for a couple bucks and a can of paint, and see what kind of statement piece you can make for your home! Trust me, your inner creative will thank you.
I used to take the time to paint ALL the time! I never knew how much I actually accumulated when I painted until we moved recently. My husband brought down at least 20 finished paintings from the attic. It’s definitely an addicting hobby.
If you want to get started with painting, I suggest canvas and acrylic! You can’t go wrong with either of those! Here’s the link to my favorite canvas for painting, as well as some amazing beginner acrylic paint.
I have always loved the thought of being a teacher one day. I love the satisfaction of helping someone, and teaching combines that along with an extreme amount of creativity. It’s the perfect gig!
There are so many platforms that allow you to teach someone something you are passionate about without needing a degree or (win!) ever leaving your home. Starting an online school is perfect for stay at home moms and a LOT easier to do than it sounds.
This year, I will be launching my own online school as well. Here is my favorite resource for starting your own online school! They have a free platform and it’s super easy to navigate! Check out Teachable here.
Again, something you don’t necessarily have to have a degree for. You just need an exceptional eye for creativity and a way to market yourself. Canva is one of my favorite design tools. It’s free to use and makes designing incredible graphics so simple!
Try a hand at design and market your creations to a few different bloggers.
Who knows, you might get a paid gig out of it!
There are so many different ways that you can show your creative side and release some mom stress in the process. Which creative outlet are you going to try to incorporate into your weekly or monthly stay at home mom routine?
